What is our Community?

We’re located in Byfield Massachusetts, but we serve people from Newbury, Georgetown, West Newbury, Rowley, Newburyport, Plum Island and throughout the lower Merrimac Valley.  However, our community isn’t about our geography.  Community describes how we come together into the family of God.  Community sends us out to serve our neighbors.  Community is our dream of living at peace in union with all God’s people and creation.  Community means there’s a place in our heart for you.

What is the United Methodist Church?

The United Methodist Church is a global connection of churches and clergy committed to extending the work of our founder, John Wesley, and his method of making disciples and changing society in the name of Jesus Christ.  Today, millions of United Methodists are serving Christ in every continent, hundreds of countries, and innumerable communities around the world.  Our work is changing lives, bringing hope, spreading justice, and proclaiming the love of God in Jesus Christ in every corner of the world. Who is our Pastor?

Rev. Meredith Manning Brown is the spiritual leader of our congregation.  She’s passionate about reaching new people with God’s love through practical acts of loving service, innovative worship, and honest searching for an authentic way of being Christian in today’s world.  Her dual background and professional training in Christian ministry and music feeds her dynamic leadership of worship.  She shares her ministry with her husband and two daughters, who all live in Byfield.  Contact her at pastormeredith@cumcbyfield.org.

You Belong in Community

You belong in mission.

The mission of all United Methodist Churches is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.  Our part of this mission is:

  • To love, teach, forgive, praise, share, witness and serve all,
  • Enrich the lives of others through Bible Study, fellowship, music, ministry to youth, and service to others in the name of Jesus Christ.

Through our church,

  • people will come into a relationship with God in Jesus Christ through our outreach and witness,
  • be transformed and strengthened as Christians disciples through nurture and worship,
  • be equipped for world-changing service as they are sent into the world to touch the lives of others.

 You belong in worship.

We believe that worship is the core of our church.  At Sunday worship, we pray for each other, sing our praises, and discover God’s direction for our lives.

  • Classic Worship Service @ 9:00 am — traditional hymns, relevant sermons and more reflective prayers are blended together in this inspiring time of worship.
  • Sunday School for all children @ 9:00 am — following a special time for children in worship, younger kids enjoy age-appropriate classes and activities .
  • Sunday School for youth & adults @ 10:30 am — each Sunday youth and adults gather in smaller groups so everyone can find a way to grow in their faith.
  • Celebration Worship Service Thursdays @ 6:30 pm — upbeat music, engaging teaching and a contemplative style bring power and spirit to this more casual and contemporary worship experience.
  • Youth Group Thursdays with Celebration Worship @ 6:30 — youth of all ages are welcome to join us for Celebration Worship and Youth Group activities following.
  • Safe & Caring Nursery — our youngest children need their own space to feel welcome, and with our brand-new nursery space and care-givers, we think they’ll feel right at home with us.

You belong in service.

God created us to grow into powerful servants of good in the world.  Through our education and nurture ministries, you will be guided toward discovering God’s potential for your life.  Through our activities of outreach, witness, and mission, you will be supported and resourced for changing the world with the love of God in Jesus Christ.
